DIY how to tie-bleach denim

I have fond memories as a kid of the 90s sporting a lovely pair of flared jeans. But they weren't just any jeans, they had bleached FIRE up the sides and i never took them off.
This is why I am fully supporting the experimental jeans revival seen here and here.

My lack of funds decided that I had a go myself, so here's a little DIY of how to make some stupid looking jeans.

What you will need:
  • Jeans (I also bleached a jacket)
  • Washing-up bowl
  • Thick bleach
  • Rubber gloves (used about 5 pairs for some reason)
  • Elastic bands
  • Scissors
  • Washing machine
  • Tap/Sink
  • A cat (optional

Scrunch up the denim at various places and add a load of elastic bands to form a tight ball..

..go at it with the bleach and leave for a good 20 minutes.

Rinse with cold water, cutting off elastic bands and then give it a quick wash in the machine at 40°.

After the wash I decided to repeat the whole process to experiment with different shades and overlapping of bleach, so this time i left to develop for about 10 minutes.

Keep the 90s alive kids,
Helen x
